Outlook/Team Not Connecting - "Need Password"

On a random occasion, Outlook (and Teams) may disconnect / stop syncing with your emails and you may encounter the following message in the bottom right corner of Outlook:


...or you may see one of these errors in Teams:

- "We ran into a problem. Reconnecting..."

"We weren't able to connect.  Sign in and we'll try again." 


When this happens, please try the following:

  • In the bottom left corner of your screen, go to the Start menu --> start typing in to search for: Access work or school in System Settings, then click on it
  • Click on Work or school account (your email address) --> click Disconnect.  
  • After it disappears, re-launch Outlook and Teams and see if they load properly.
    • Teams may still be running in the background.  Check your system tray (bottom-right corner by the date/time) and right-click the Teams icon, if it appears there, and select Quit before attempting to launch Teams again.
