The purpose of this guide is to provide simple step-by-step instructions to ensure the Brother label printer (QL-820NWB) is up and running smoothly.

1. Check the Connection: First, whenever possible, ensure that the Brother label printer is connected to its own network drop. A reliable network connection is crucial for seamless printing.

2. Factory Reset: If you are facing persistent issues, consider performing a factory reset on the device. This can help resolve various software-related problems and restore default settings.

You can reset the following settings using the LCD menu:

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Press the UP or Down Arrow button to select [Administration], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the UP or Down Arrow button to select [Reset], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the UP or Down Arrow button to select the reset menu, and then press the [OK] button.

3. Access the IP Site: Open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address (usually in the format 192.168.x.33). This will allow you to access the printer's administration settings.

4. Update IP Address: Within the administration settings, locate the option to update the IP address. Make sure it is set to AUTO or DHCP, matching the desired configuration. This step is essential for proper network communication.

5. Confirm IP in DHCP: Verify that the printer is picking up an IP address in your network's DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). This ensures that your printer is recognized by the network.

6. Check "BRN" Device: Ensure that the Brother label printer is listed in the Address Leases section of the DHCP scope. If it is not there, go back to step 1 or 4, then follow the next step.

7. Create a New Reservation: Once the printer is listed in the Address Leases, create a reservation. Note down the printer's MAC address and assign it the IP address specified in your records (e.g. 192.168.x.33).

8. Add Printer via IP: On the user's computer, add the Brother label printer by specifying its IP address and printer name. This will establish a direct connection between your computer and the printer, as we have found consistent success with printing from Cleartouch.

9. Update and Test: Once the printer is added, update its drivers and settings as needed. Test the printer within Cleartouch to ensure it is working correctly.

10. Confirm Working: Finally, confirm that the Brother label printer is working smoothly by printing a test label or document. If it prints without issues, you have successfully resolved the problem.

By following these straightforward steps, you can troubleshoot and resolve common connectivity and configuration problems with your Brother label printer.
